Jakarta, mataberita.net — Born into a humble farming family, Dr. Sudaryono, B.Eng., M.M., MBA, has risen from modest beginnings to become Head of Indonesia’s National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional/BGN), after previously serving as Deputy Minister of Agriculture. Hailing from Grobogan, Central Java, he spent his childhood amid hardship and perseverance. Despite limited means, his determination, academic excellence, and intellectual promise earned him scholarship opportunities that paved the way for higher education and a distinguished public service career.

Sudaryono’s journey from the son of a small-scale farmer to a senior national leader reflects a story of resilience, discipline, and social mobility—one that continues to inspire many Indonesians across the country. Born in the hamlet of Mangunrejo, Tambirejo Village, Grobogan Regency, Central Java, he was the only child of Yahyo, a farmer, and Suwarni. Raised in a modest rural household, he grew up with a strong appreciation for hard work and perseverance. He began his formal education at Tambirejo 1 State Elementary School, where he studied from 1991 to 1997.
Sudaryono later continued his education at State Junior High School 2 Toroh from 1997 to 2000. After graduating from junior high school, Sudaryono earned a prestigious scholarship to Taruna Nusantara Senior High School, where he studied from 2000 to 2003. During his time there, he distinguished himself academically and graduated as one of the school’s top students, marking an early milestone in a journey that would eventually lead him to national leadership.
The man affectionately known as ‘Mas Dar’, an only child, continued his academic journey through a scholarship that enabled him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Japan’s National Defense Academy from 2004 to 2009. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from Swiss German University between 2015 and 2018, before completing a doctoral degree in Finance at IPB University from 2020 to 2023 with a perfect cumulative GPA of 4.00.
Following his graduation from the National Defense Academy in 2010, Sudaryono was entrusted with the role of personal assistant to Prabowo Subianto, a position he held for the next five years. In 2014, he also served as Corporate Secretary at Nusantara Energy, further broadening his experience in both public affairs and the corporate sector. He was later appointed Chief Executive Officer of Garuda TV in 2018, marking a significant step in his leadership career.
Sudaryono has also served as Chief Executive Officer of PT Nusantara Telematics System since 2019 and as Chairman of PT Sahabat Sejati Sejahtera Farma since 2020, expanding his experience across the media, technology, and healthcare sectors. Ahead of the 2024 Central Java gubernatorial election, his name was widely discussed as a potential candidate for governor. Although speculation surrounding his candidacy gained considerable public attention, he ultimately did not enter the race.
In the political arena, Sudaryono was entrusted with the position of Deputy Secretary-General of the Gerindra Party for the 2020–2025 term. He continues to serve as Chairman of the Central Java Regional Leadership Council (DPD) of the Gerindra Party, a role that underscores his enduring influence within the party’s regional leadership structure.

Born on January 23, 1985, Sudaryono has also been actively involved in a number of prominent business and agricultural organizations. He serves as Chairman of the Central Executive Board of APPSI (the Indonesian Market Traders Association), Chairman of the Advisory Board of PAPERA (Indonesian Great Indonesia Traders Association), Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI), and Chairman of Tani Merdeka Indonesia (TMI).
Mas Dar’s extensive organizational engagement has reinforced his profile as a figure closely connected to grassroots economic and agricultural communities across Indonesia. On July 18, 2024, Sudaryono was officially sworn in as Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture by President Joko Widodo at the State Palace in Jakarta, marking a new chapter in his national public service career.
In addition, Sudaryono was appointed President Commissioner of Pupuk Indonesia on June 16, 2025, succeeding Darmin Nasution. The appointment further strengthened his presence in Indonesia’s strategic state-owned enterprise sector. A new chapter in his career unfolded when, less than twelve hours after Nanik S. Deyang stepped down as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional/BGN), President Prabowo Subianto moved swiftly to name Sudaryono as her successor.
For many observers, Former Indonesian Deputy Minister of Agriculture’s rise to one of the country’s key public leadership positions reflects more than professional achievement. It is the culmination of a life shaped by hardship, perseverance, and an unwavering determination to transcend humble beginnings. From an early age, he was accustomed to helping his parents in the rice fields. He would carry water over long distances from a nearby spring to their home when the village faced shortages of clean water, and he regularly gathered grass and fodder for livestock before and after school.

Sudaryono grew up embracing a life of genuine simplicity in a rural village, where his farming family lived on a modest and often uncertain income. Yet rather than allowing hardship to define his future, he developed a disciplined habit of rising before dawn to study after the morning prayer, determined to pursue academic excellence despite limited circumstances.
